2018-2019 High School Essay Contest

The Mississippi Concrete Association (MCA) High School Essay Contest was designed to better educate high school students about the concrete industry and its benefits to society. For this reason, MCA is once again sponsoring the annual High School Essay Contest for Mississippi students.

All entries into the MCA Essay Contest will be judged by an impartial committee of industry executives. The top three winners will be awarded a scholarship to the college of their choice: 1st place – $500, 2nd place – $300, and 3rd place – $200.

Contest rules:

  • Open to Mississippi high school students between the ages 16-18 at the beginning of the

2018-2019 school year.

  • Essay Prompt: How Can Concrete Be Used to Benefit Mississippians Across the State?
  • Entry must be typed, double-spaced and must not exceed 600 words.
  • Judging will be based on content and writing ability (grammar, style, clarity, creativity).
  • Essay should demonstrate a student’s awareness of concrete’s role as a building material in homes, commercial buildings, streets and highways.
  • Entry form and essay must be submitted or postmarked no later than Friday, May 31, 2019.
  • Winners will be asked to submit a photo.

Mississippi Concrete Association reserves the right to publish the winning entries in whole or in part. All entries become the property of MCA. Decisions of the judging committee are final.
